From August 5th to August 13th, the Kentucky Department of Revenue will pause some of our operations as we update our tax system and the MyTaxes portal. From August 5th through August 13th, staff will have limited access to our system and will not be able to process returns or provide case status updates. Please anticipate at least a two-week delay in processing during this transition.

This is a form-based product. KY File users should familiarize themselves with Kentucky forms by reading the instructions.
What you should know before you begin:
- Kentucky will begin processing 2025 returns on February 5, 2026.
- For added security, this session resets after 15 minutes. Be sure to click the 'Save Progress' button prior to the 15 minutes. Just sign in again to keep going.
- Users must have a valid SSN or ITIN to use this program.
- This site can perform basic calculations but users will need to perform some calculations themselves.
- This site supports state submissions but IRS prep and IRS e-file submissions need to be submitted to the IRS via another method.
- Users that need to submit a copy of their federal return may include it as a .pdf file with their state submission.
- Attached files should not be password protected or encrypted.
- Current year tax returns are available for submission. In addition, returns for tax years 2022, 2023 and 2024 are available for submission.
- Refund checks are available through KY File; however, direct deposit is not available.
- All account information will be purged December 7th each year.
